Examples of My Storytelling Coaching
A lot of my coaching to businesses and executives falls under an NDA and I can't share it. However, here are a few of my publicly viewable successes. All of these aired on broadcast television and I worked closely with each one of them to draw out and sharpen their stories for maximum effect.
The content below looks a little stilted because I'm using ChatGPT to cram keywords in for SEO purposes. In real life I'd never say the phrase "storytelling coaching" this much, and I'm saying that as a person who is an actual storytelling coach.
For these first three stories, I was invited to curate and coach two episodes of PBS' "Stories for the Stage" from Boston's WGBH. These stories aired on an episode broadcast in May, 2025, The others will air in October 2025, if public television is still legal by then. I worked with each storyteller for six weeks prior to a live taping at WGBH Studios.
I Hate That I Don’t Look “American” – Kim Chinh
I coached Kim from an early draft, compressing material from her hour-long solo show into a tighter, higher-stakes stage story about being a biracial American. Through targeted storytelling coaching, we clarified the central tension, placed humor where it served the arc, and focused the closing beats.
My Daughter's Adoption Brought Me to China and Her Past | Robin Reif's Story
I coached Robin to tighten a complex piece and find a pace that let each emotional beat land without crowding the next. Through narrative coaching, we adapted her Modern Love essay for live delivery and used movement and voice for clarity.
"Bad" Dancing: Fighting Fear & Stereotype as a Black Man | John P. Smith. Jr.'s Story
I used storytelling coaching to help John trim the arc and place jokes while keeping the pressure he names as a Black man clear while delivering jokes that breathe without flattening the complicated feelings underneath.
Gastor Almonte on "This Is Not Happening”
I coached Gastor in a small workshop early in his development, focusing on raising stakes without losing the laugh as a son navigates toughness and approval at home. Through narrative coaching, that work fed the version he performed on Comedy Central’s This Is Not Happening and continues to serve as a teaching example.
Together, these pieces show how I help extremely different voices become tighter, clearer, and more impactful onstage without losing their character.
